The online atelier
The bespoke signet ring
A signet ring is composed around a hand and a sign. In the online atelier you choose the band, the face, the ring size and what is engraved on it: initials, a coat of arms, a portrait from your photograph. The piece takes shape before your eyes, to its exact dimensions, and the house makes it in Paris.
Design my signet ring
Making a bespoke signet ring, step by step
Making a bespoke signet ring here needs neither an appointment nor a sketch to approve: every setting shows at once on the piece, cut to its real dimensions. You design without an account, at your own pace, and come back whenever you wish.
I · The band and the size
Six bands from the house: L’Ovale, La Pleine, La Ronde, La Dame, Le Coussin and L’Anglaise. Ring sizes run from French 44 to 70, about a UK F to a Z.
II · The face and the head
The width and length of the face, its bevel, the height of the head, the sides and the shoulders: every dimension can be set, and the weight is read as you go.
III · The engraving
Upload a photograph — a face, a coat of arms, a signature — and it is engraved on the face. The right way round, or in reverse for sealing. The inside of the band takes a date or a few words.
IV · The material
18ct gold (750/1000) or sterling silver (925/1000). You save your signet ring with an email address and find it again whenever you wish.
The six bands of the collection
L’Ovale is the classic signet ring: an oval face, almost straight walls that melt into an almond-shaped band. La Pleine is the men’s signet ring: a large oval face, a tall, full head, broad shoulders that hold the hand. La Ronde has a round face, like a seal, straight sides and a clean head.
La Dame is the small signet ring: a slender oval face, a low head, a fine band worn on the little finger or the ring finger. Le Coussin sets a square face with softened corners on taut sides: the most architectural of the signet rings. L’Anglaise, finally, has a rectangular face, longer than it is wide, in the English tradition.
Each band is a starting point, not a fixed model: its profile (D-shape, flat, court, square or knife-edge), its thickness and its width can be set, as can the face it carries.
Personalised signet ring for men or women
A men’s bespoke signet ring often starts from La Pleine or L’Ovale; a women’s, from La Dame. In between, every dimension can be set: a personalised signet ring need not choose between two catalogue sizes. A narrower face for a slender hand, a taller head for a bolder look, a wider band for a man’s little finger.
The engraving follows the same freedom: interlaced initials, a portrait, the emblem of a family or a profession — whatever you upload is engraved.
Engraving a signet ring: initials, family crest, portrait
A signet ring engraved with initials reads at first glance; a family crest signet ring also reads in the wax, if you choose it for sealing: the face is then engraved in reverse and intaglio. A portrait, an animal, a date catch the light in relief.
The engraving starts from the image you upload — a drawing, a signature, a photograph — and its settings stay in your hands: the depth, the relief, the framing on the face. The inside of the band takes a few words, in one of the house’s ten typefaces.
A signet ring in gold or silver
The signet ring is made in 18ct gold, 750/1000, or in sterling silver, 925/1000. The weight changes with every dimension — the face, the head, the band — and the atelier shows it at every setting, for gold and for silver: you know what your signet ring will weigh before you save it.
The piece you see is the piece the house makes
The atelier does not show an illustration: it cuts the volume of your signet ring from your settings, and it is this measured volume that goes into making. It is made in Paris.
The house answers
- What is a bespoke signet ring?
- A signet ring made to your ring size and your choices: its band, its face, its engraving. In the online atelier you design it yourself, dimension by dimension, and see it cut before you save it.
- What can be engraved on a signet ring?
- Initials, a coat of arms, a portrait or an emblem, from a photograph you upload, and a few words inside the band. Intaglio if the signet ring is to seal — the arms then read in the wax —, in relief if it is only worn.
- How much does a bespoke signet ring cost?
- The price of a bespoke signet ring depends first on its metal and its weight, and so on the face, the height of the head and the width of the band that you set. The atelier shows the weight of your signet ring in gold and in silver at every setting.
- How do I find my ring size?
- In the UK and Ireland ring sizes are letters. The atelier works in French sizes: the inner circumference of the ring, in millimetres. French size 58 measures 58 mm round, or 18.5 mm across — about a UK Q, a US 8½. Have your finger measured with a ring sizer, or measure a ring you wear on the same finger.
- Which finger is a signet ring worn on?
- Usually the little finger — left or right hand, depending on the family. The ring finger for a more discreet look.
- Do I need an account to design?
- No. You design freely, and your creation is kept on your device. An email address is enough to save it: we send you a link, with no password, that takes you back to it.
- Can a piece made to measure be returned?
- A piece made to your measurements and engraved for you is exempt from the fourteen-day right of withdrawal (Directive 2011/83/EU, Article 16(c)). That is why the atelier shows it to you cut, dimension by dimension, before you save it.
